Fulfilling the John Keells Leisure sector vision to “always be the hospitality trendsetter,” Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo set another example to the entire hospitality industry by creating the first hotel based dvanced accidental emergency risk management and occupational first aid team. Twelve associates, namely Tharaka Appuhamy, Prabath Fonseka, Priyantha Jayalatharachchi, Kumara Thambugala, Samantha Dias, Susil Rohana, Parakrama Edirisinghe, S. Silva, Thusara Fernando, Heshan Hepponstall, Kasun Stainwall and Russel Francke from various departments of the hotel were especially trained by Mr. Shakun Croos, Instructor at Sri-Lanka Red Cross Society – Gampaha Branch. All twelve associates received an extensive 8 day training in Advanced Accidental Emergency Risk Management & Occupational First Aid.
Each member of the first aid team is also fully qualified to be first aid trainers. At the recently held John Keells Intercompany Rugby 7s, the first aid team of Cinnamon Lakeside offered their voluntary service throughout the event and were able to assist injured players from various other companies.
First aid training in the work place is of paramount importance in any industry. It is crucial to provide initial care for an injury or illness of an individual until definitive medical treatment can be accessed. Thus, the existence of a trained first aid team will ensure that this initial care is provided to the highest standards. The knowledge that first aid can make the difference between life and death has lead the team at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo to take this initiative to raise the health and safety standards in the industry.
