Following an invitation from the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) for the second consecutive year, CICRA – the premier cyber security training and consultancy organisation in Sri Lanka – participated in ‘Cyber Endeavor’ Program of the USPACOM held recently in Thailand.

CICRA also conducted training sessions on two days on cyber security and disaster recovery to top military officers from 28 nations in the Asia Pacific region at the conference. The training session was conducted by CICRA master trainer Krishnan Rajagopal. Mr. Rajagopal also represented CICRA at a panel discussion.

“We managed to make the audience realize the importance of cyber security with regard to national defence and disaster recovery. We also received very positive feedback from the audience,” CICRA Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne said.

“We are pleased to see that the US Pacific Command is taking a proactive role in cyber defence as part of disaster recovery and communication,” Mr. Dayaratne said.

“Reactive cyber defence is a costlier exercise after the damage had already been done. CICRA encourages all sectors in the public and private sector to play a similar proactive role with regard to cyber defence,” he said.

Top multinational companies such as Fireeye, Cambre, McAfee, CISCO, and SANS were also at the ‘Cyber Endeavor 2013’ program along with CICRA from Sri Lanka. CICRA is the only company to be recognized by the US Pacific Command.

Cyber Endeavor’ program is part of ‘Pacific Endeavor’ annual workshop series that helps to identify and document communications and information systems interoperability among the participants. The participants to this program are from member nations of the Multinational Communications Interoperability Program (MCIP).

This program is designed to operationalize the goals of the MCIP and satisfy the intent of the USPACOM Theater Security Cooperation Program.

Established in 2004, Pacific Endeavor is an annual workshop designed to confirm participating nations are capable of communicating with one another in the event of a natural disaster and ensures the success of Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief operations when there is a crisis.
