Ceylon Theatres Introduces Empire Cineplex – Sri Lanka’s First Boutique Cinema
Ceylon Theaters combines history with modernity with its new boutique cinema, Empire Cineplex at Arcade Independence Square. Ceremoniously opened by His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapakse, the new Empire Cineplex offers a unique cinematic experience that is more intimate and luxurious than ever before. The Empire Cineplex is now the ‘go-to’ cinema destination in Colombo and offers cinema enthusiasts an experience that draws on the latest movie exhibition trends. The new cinema is specifically designed to offer a high-end, private and exclusive cinema experience.
The Empire Cineplex comprises two screens that use the latest cinema technology acquired from the biggest international cinema brands (including Harkness, Barco, QSE and QUBE). Seating 20 in the Gold cinema and 70 in the Deluxe, Empire Cineplex offer ultimate comfort with their reclining seats. The new cinema screens the latest movies alongside their international releases and offers features that are on-par with the latest international standards. Both screens offer state-of-the-art 3D projections and audio visual systems which bring the entire cinema experience to life. The Empire Cineplex enables cinema enthusiasts to enjoy the best of digital technology, the latest cinema design and flexible programming in one of Colombo’s most historic and beautiful shopping arcades.
Commenting on the opening of the cinema, Pravin David, Chief Operating Officer, Ceylon Theatres Pvt. The Arcade Independence Square is a masterpiece of colonial architecture resurrected by the Urban Development Authority. The new development is part of Sri Lanka’s progress towards its vision to become the ‘Miracle of Asia’. The arcade has been extensively renovated into a modern shopping complex however its trademark colonial style and ambiance have been preserved. The Empire Cineplex at the Arcade Independence Square is Ceylon Theatre’s flagship boutique cinema and sets a new standard in the cinema and entertainment industry in Sri Lanka.
Ceylon Theatres first opened in 1930 and has been a dynamic leader in the Sri Lankan entertainment industry for over 85 years. The theatre company currently operates ten screens in Sri Lanka at the Majestic Cineplex (Colombo and Jaffna) and the Regal (Colombo, Kandy and Negombo).
